Museums of the Lodigiano

MUSEUMS IN LODI
The Lodigiano Museum System has a varied and heterogeneous range of offers: the collections dedicated to art and archaeology that are kept at the Civic Museum of Lodi are of remarkable interest, as well as the goldsmith’s art masterpieces kept at the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, the Incoronata Museum, the paintings and furniture kept at the Morando Bolognini Museum and those on display at the Permanent Antique Exhibition at Villa Litta. At the Art Collection “Carlo Lamberti” and at the Museum “Ettore Archinti” it is possible to look at works by artists of world renown together with some of the most appreciated lodigiani artists, while the Folligeniali Museum is dedicated to contemporary art. There is also the Archaeological Area of the former Conventino in Lodivecchio, which is a unique case in the Lodigiano.
An important section is dedicated to ancient jobs and past traditions, with eight museums acting as guardians of the lodigiana peasant civilization (see list below).
There are then monothematic museums: the Toys and Children Museum, a fascinating display of toys dating back to a period of time between the 18th and 20th century, or the collection “The world of the crèche”, which presents a selection of crèches coming from all over the world, and the Museum of Photography, with images and instruments of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th
century.
There also are museums dedicated to distinguished lodigiani characters: Saint Frances Cabrini, who is celebrated through the Cabrini Museum and her Native House, and Paolo Gorini, whose the extraordinary Anatomic Collection is kept. At the Press and Artistic Print Museum “Andrea Schiavi” are kept the machines that have been part of the history of press from Gutenberg to present days. Recently the didactic Collection “Museum of Musical Instruments and Music” was opened.
The natural heritage is a resource of great value for the lodigiano territory; together with the Natural Sciences Museum and the paleontological and archaeological Museum “Virginio Caccia”, there are parks and nature reserves (see the relevant section).
Finally, there is the Provincial Astronomic Observatory, from whose self-moving dome it is possible to look at the constellations in the sky.
